Adam Jeppesen is usually known for his tactile and poetic photographs. Departing from his career-long dedication to a photographic-based practice, Jeppesen has for the first time created a large-scale, site-specific sculptural installation made of concrete, on exhibition now at Brandts Museum in Denmark.
This ambitious sculptural installation has been created specifically for the Malersalen exhibition room at Brandts. A landscape of crumbling sandcastles and semi-collapsed shapes covers a space of more than 150 square metres creating a seemingly endless skyline of ruins. The Great Filter approaches themes of life’s universal conditions: beauty, transience, memory and time.
The Great Filter focuses on the parallels between the beginning and end of everything. With the sandcastle as his tool, the artist highlights one of the most existential and basic conditions of our life – that everything is temporary, that transience is a premise for the beginning of new life.
