Photo London, 2021 Edition in Somerset House

BRENDAN BARRY  •  JOANNE DUGAN  •  ADAM JEPPESEN  •  STEVE MACLEOD  •  CHRIS McCAW  •  LIZ NIELSEN  •  JONI STERNBACH

Black Box Projects is delighted to be return to Somerset House for the long-awaited 2021 edition of the Photo London. Bringing together the work of seven contemporary artists who apply historic photographic techniques to their contemporary practices, the gallery will present work made with handmade cameras, modified cameras or no camera at all. The artists exhibited are united by their dedication to exploring the processes of photographic past and presenting novel approaches within their contemporary work whilst challanging the very defination of what can be considered photography.

The exhibition will include such increasingly rare techniques as photograms, ambrotypes, cyanotypes, tin-types, wet-plate collodion prints, silver gelatin prints and unique works created with a camera obscura. In presenting these methods Black Box Projects will provide an opportunity to examine why these rudimentary techniques have benefitted from a resurgence in popularity in today's age of digital technology and social media.

Black Box Projects is delighted to present work by Brendan Barry, Liz Nielsen, Adam Jeppesen, Steve Macleod, Joanne Dugan, Chris McCaw and Joni Sternbach, at Photo London from 8 - 12 September 2021.
